It looks like the pharmaceuticals and non-pharma companies from the communications world are joining efforts to promote better outcomes in drug delivery. The news are that all sorts of “smart pills” are on the horizon. Pharmaceuticals are intent on demonstrating that their highly-priced products really work, and have in mind new devices that will help patients monitor their vital signs, see their glucose levels on an  iPhone application, or even install a glucometer on their children’s Nintendo consoles. So for all those health managers that were considering cutting out certain drugs out of their lists, be on the lookout for the improved results these joint-ventures are going to propose as they struggle to keep their pills on the market and pose financial challenges to health management. With all these new “i-gadgets,” the time has come for intelligent management to be born.
